About Visitor Visas & Holiday/Work Visas

If you want to visit Australia as a tourist or for business purposes, you can apply for a Visitor Visa.

There are three types of Visitor Visas:

The Electronic Travel Authority Visa (Subclass 601) and the eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)

These Visas are for people living outside Australia who hold a valid passport from a specified country. Holders of these Visas are entitled to travel Australia for either tourism or business purposes as many times as they want for up to a year, but only stay up to 3 months for each visit within that year. As the names of the Visas suggest, a record of your Visa will be stored electronically and you will not be given a stamp or label on your passport to show that your Travel Authority has been granted. The Electronic Travel Authority Visa is for people living outside Australia who hold a valid passport from Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the United States.

The eVisitor Visa is for people living outside Australia who hold a valid passport from Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Republic of San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (British Citizen) and the Vatican City.

The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)

This Visa is for people either living inside or outside Australia who want to travel or stay in Australia for up to 3, 6 or 12 months as a tourist, for business purposes, to visit family or on a tour with a registered travel agent from China.

The Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) & the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

These Visas allow young people who have a valid passport from a specified country, either living in or outside Australia, and who are aged 18 to 30 to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year. Visa holders can generally only work six months for one employer. Also, Visa applicants cannot have a dependent child accompany them at any time during their stay in Australia.

The Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) is for people who have a valid passport from a country involved in the Working Holiday Program with Australia which are Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (including British National Overseas passport holders), Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) is for people who have a valid passport from Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United States of America and Uruguay.
